An Ode to Autumn, a season of Quiet Joy.
Autumn is by far my favourite season. It invites us to return to our sensuality and our pleasure. There is something so cosy and intimate about waking up to a dark crisp morning and watching the sunrise reveal the colourful crunchy leaves passing by on the whistling wind. And on gloomier days the pitter patter of rain on the windows is soothing and encourages us to enjoy the comfort of warm sweet beverages and food as well as soft, thick blankets and clothes. It is a time of indulgence, to wrap oursleves in warmth and to slow down and notice the little things.
We are very fond of moments of everyday magic here at Whispered Threads and throughout October these can be found in abundance. I have tried to capture some of my moments of quiet joy this Autumn as well as from seasons gone by in an attempt to express this feeling as I firmly believe that pictures can communicate a thousand words. As can music, in my opinion, so I have also created a playlist devoted to this theme which you can find on Spotify.
We would love to see your moments of quiet joy on Instagram or Bluesky. Feel free to follow us and tag us in any photos you would like to share. Also, drop a comment if there's a moment you'd like to share or something you love about Autumn.
I will leave you with my personal moments of Autumnal joy below.
Wishing you an Autumn filled with wonder and delight.
With love,
Ami
Tamsin’s Crystal Corner
Welcome to Tamsin’s Crystal Corner! I believe crystals are not only beautiful pieces of nature, but nature’s way of encouraging us to invite the energy we need into our spaces and everyday lives.
Over the years, I’ve built quite an extensive crystal collection, which has gradually grown into making my own crystal jewellery too. I love being able to choose the energy I want to carry with me and keep a little piece of nature close throughout my day.
To begin this month’s theme of Quiet Joy, I’ve chosen five autumnal crystals associated with slowing down, grounding ourselves in the present moment, connecting with nature, and finding joy in life’s little pleasures.
Smoky Quartz — Be Present
Smoky Quartz is associated with grounding and centring, making it a lovely companion when life feels busy or your mind is already racing towards the next thing. Its earthy, smoky colouring also feels perfectly suited to autumn.
Keep it nearby as a gentle reminder to pause, take a breath and bring yourself back to where you are right now.
Moss Agate — Connect with Nature
With its beautiful moss-like patterns, Moss Agate has long been associated with nature, grounding and growth.
Autumn offers so many little changes to notice — leaves turning from green to gold, crisp mornings, darker evenings and that unmistakable change in the air. Take Moss Agate along on an autumn walk as a reminder to notice the season unfolding around you.
Picture Jasper — Notice the Little Things
With warm, earthy colours and patterns that can resemble tiny landscapes, Picture Jasper feels made for autumn. It is associated with grounding, reflection and connection to the Earth.
Let it remind you to look a little closer: at the colours of fallen leaves, the sound of rain against the window, or the steam rising from your favourite warm drink. Ordinary moments can be beautiful when we give ourselves time to notice them.
Dalmatian Jasper — Find the Joy
Dalmatian Jasper is associated with playfulness, positivity and reconnecting with our lighter side.
Quiet joy doesn’t have to mean grand experiences. It can be baking something you love, crunching through fallen leaves, curling up with a favourite book, laughing at something silly or simply doing something because it makes you happy.
Let Dalmatian Jasper be a reminder to make room for those little sparks of joy.
Red Jasper — Savour the Moment
Warm and earthy, Red Jasper is associated with grounding, stability and our connection with the physical world.
For autumn, I like to think of it as an invitation to come back to our senses and really experience the moment we’re in. Feel the warmth of your mug between your hands. Notice the smell of the autumn air. Taste your favourite seasonal treat. Feel the softness of your cosiest jumper.
Sometimes being present is simply giving ourselves permission to enjoy what is already here.
My little crystal invitation for this week: choose a crystal that speaks to you, hold or carry it with you, and use it as a reminder to ask yourself:
What small thing can I slow down and really enjoy today?
Blessed Be
